<p><b>Performance Enhancements:</b>

<li>Many micro-optimizations result in 20.3% more work for the same number

of CPU cycles relative to the previous release.

The cumulative performance increase since <a href="../releaselog/3_8_0.html">version 3.8.0</a> is 61%.
